Hey everyone,
Did you hear about the earthquake in Myanmar? Let’s talk about what happened!
On Saturday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 struck an area 21 kilometers south-southwest of a town called Kyaukse in Myanmar (that’s a country in Southeast Asia). ๐บ๏ธ
The quake happened at 3:54 PM GMT, and the information comes from the U.S. Geological Survey (that’s an organization that studies the Earth). ๐
The center of the earthquake, called the epicenter, was 10 kilometers deep inside the Earth. That’s about the height of 25 Eiffel Towers stacked on top of each other! ๐ฎ
Earthquakes happen when the Earth’s plates move and release energy. A magnitude of 5.2 is considered moderate, which can cause some damage, but it’s not as strong as bigger quakes.
Let’s hope everyone in Myanmar is safe! ๐
