Spokesperson: UN hopes China-U.S. talks to help normalize trade ties

UN Hopes China-U.S. Talks Will Boost Trade Friendship

Hey everyone! Have you heard the news? 🌟 The United Nations is excited about an upcoming meeting between China and the United States! 🎉

Leaders from China and the U.S. are planning to meet in Switzerland to talk about trade. Trade is when countries buy and sell things to each other, like toys, phones, and even movies! Isn’t that cool?

The UN spokesperson, Farhan Haq, said that they hope these talks will help China and the U.S. become better trading partners. He reminded everyone that in a trade war, nobody wins.

What’s a trade war? 🤔 It’s when countries make it harder to trade by adding extra taxes or rules. This can make things more expensive and can hurt people and businesses.

Farhan Haq also said that the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, is worried about how a global trade war could hurt developing countries—that’s countries that are still growing and need help.

From May 9 to 12, He Lifeng, who is a Vice Premier of China (that’s a very important leader in the Chinese government), will visit Switzerland. He will meet with Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary (an important leader in charge of the U.S. government’s money matters). They will talk about how China and the U.S. can work better together in trade.

Let’s hope these talks go well, so that China and the U.S. can be better friends in trade! 🌍🤝
