Hey there! Did you know that Australia is having a big election today? Millions of people are going to polling places to choose who will lead their country! 🗳️
Australia has two main groups called political parties. One is called the Labor Party, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. The other is the Coalition, led by Peter Dutton. They’re both hoping to win and become the next government!
In Australia, if you’re 18 or older, you have to vote. It’s the law! That means over 18 million people are expected to cast their votes. Wow, that’s a lot of people! 😲
Some people voted early. In fact, more than 5 million people already voted before today, and over 1 million sent their votes by mail. And for Australians who are overseas, there are 111 places in 83 countries where they can vote. How cool is that?
The polling places opened early in the morning at 8 a.m. and will close at 6 p.m. After that, the counting of votes begins! Everyone is excited to find out who will be the next leader of Australia.
