There has been a tragic event in Yemen, a country in the Middle East. A group called the Houthis, who control much of northern Yemen, say that a U.S. strike hit a center where migrants were staying. Sadly, at least 68 people were killed in the attack π.
The center was in a place called Saada Province. Many of the people there were migrants from Africa, hoping for a better life.
The United States military has been carrying out strikes against the Houthis since March 15, in an operation called “Rough Rider”. They say these strikes are to stop the Houthis from threatening ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The Houthis have been launching attacks on ships in the Red Sea, including those belonging to Israel and Western countries. They say they are doing this to show support for the Palestinians after recent events.
The U.S. military reported that since mid-March, they have hit more than 800 targets in Yemen, causing the deaths of many Houthi fighters, including some of their leaders.
Recently, the Houthis’ own TV channel, al-Masirah, reported that the U.S. strikes had hit a detention center for African migrants. They said that 68 people were killed, and the center had housed 115 migrants from Africa.
These events are very sad, and many innocent people have been hurt or killed. It shows how important it is for conflicts to be resolved peacefully so that people can be safe.
Our thoughts are with the people affected by this tragedy π.
