Hey there! Have you ever heard of brandy? π₯ It’s a kind of drink made by distilling grape wine. Well, here’s some interesting news from China! π¨π³
The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has decided to extend their investigation into brandy imports from the European Union (that’s a group of countries in Europe π) by three more months. Originally, they planned to finish by April 5, 2025, but now they’re extending it to July 5, 2025.
Why are they investigating? π€ It’s because they want to check if brandy from the EU is being sold in China at unfairly low prices, which could hurt Chinese brandy producers. This is called an “anti-dumping investigation.” Dumping means selling products abroad at prices lower than in the home market.
The investigation started on January 5, 2024, after the China Alcoholic Drinks Association asked for it. They’re looking at brandy imported between October 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023, especially those in containers smaller than 200 liters.
Since October 11, 2024, China has put temporary measures in place to protect its own brandy makers while the investigation continues.
It’s a tricky situation, but it’s all about making sure trade between countries is fair! π
