Colombian Kids Face Uncertainty Amid Ongoing Violence in Catatumbo

Hey there! Do you know about Colombia? It’s a beautiful country in South America with lots of mountains and rainforests. But right now, some kids and families there are facing tough times.

In a place called the Catatumbo region near the border with Venezuela, there has been a lot of fighting 😢. This area has been troubled for a long time because of groups called rebel guerrillas and paramilitaries. They have been involved in things like making and selling illegal drugs, especially something called cocaine.

Recently, in January, violence broke out again. About 100 people lost their lives, and around 50,000 people had to leave their homes to find safety. Imagine if you had to pack up and leave your home quickly—that’s really hard!

This is especially difficult for kids and teenagers. When families have to move suddenly, children might miss school, leave their friends behind, and feel really scared or confused. 😔

The government is trying to stop the violence, but it takes time. Meanwhile, the young people in Catatumbo are hoping for peace so they can go back to their normal lives—going to school, playing with friends, and being safe.

Let’s keep them in our thoughts and hope that things get better soon! ❤️
