Israel is getting ready 🚨 because Hamas has decided to delay the release of hostages that was planned for Saturday.
On Monday, Hamas announced that they won’t be releasing the hostages as expected. This means that people who were supposed to come home will have to wait longer.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, said that this is a big problem. He called it “a complete violation of the Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal.” Because of this, he has told the Israeli military to be ready for anything that might happen in the Gaza Strip.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is meeting with other leaders to talk about what to do next.
Hamas says that Israel hasn’t been following the rules of the ceasefire agreement. They say Israel has been delaying the return of people to their homes in northern Gaza and hasn’t been allowing in enough supplies like food and medicine.
Because of this, Hamas is postponing the release of the hostages until Israel follows the agreement.
Israel says they are taking this very seriously and want the agreement to be followed completely.
Just before all this happened, Israeli officials had talks in Qatar about the next steps in the ceasefire agreement.
A ceasefire is when two sides agree to stop fighting for a while. Under this ceasefire, which started on January 19 after 15 months of war, 21 hostages were released by Hamas. In return, Israel released hundreds of Palestinian detainees from jail.
Over the next six weeks, they hope to release more people: 33 Israeli hostages and about 2,000 Palestinian detainees.
Everyone is hoping that both sides can agree and that the hostages can come home safely soon 🤞.
