France Says the EU Will Stand Up to New US Tariffs 🇫🇷🇪🇺
Hey there! Have you ever heard about tariffs? 🤔 They are like extra taxes that countries put on stuff coming from other countries. Recently, there’s been some big news about this!
On Sunday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that he wants to add new tariffs of 25% on all steel and aluminum coming into the US. That’s a lot! 🏗️🛠️
France’s Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, says that the European Union (that’s a group of countries in Europe that work together 🤝) will respond to these new tariffs.
He said, “We should not hesitate to defend our interests against these tariff threats.” That means they want to make sure things are fair for everyone involved.
The European Commission, which is like the EU’s main decision-making group, also said they haven’t received any official notice about these new tariffs yet. They said they’ll protect European businesses, workers, and consumers from any unfair actions.
This isn’t the first time something like this happened. Back in 2018, similar tariffs were announced, and the EU responded then too.
Barrot mentioned, “It’s in no one’s interest to start a trade war with the European Union.” A trade war is when countries keep adding tariffs on each other’s goods, which can make things more expensive and complicated! 🛍️💸
So, what’s next? We’ll have to wait and see how things unfold. But one thing’s for sure: countries are talking and trying to work things out. 🌍❤️
