Swiss Snowboarder Sophie Hediger Tragically Dies in Avalanche 😢

It’s a sad time for snowboarding fans around the world. Sophie Hediger, a 26-year-old Olympic snowboarder from Switzerland, has passed away after an avalanche at the Arosa resort in Switzerland on Monday.

Sophie competed at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where she took part in the women’s individual and mixed team snowboard cross events. Snowboard cross is a thrilling race where athletes speed down a snowy course filled with jumps and sharp turns.

In the 2023-24 season, Sophie celebrated her first two World Cup podium finishes! Her best achievement was earning second place at St. Moritz in January. She was truly shining bright and inspiring many young athletes.

Walter Reusser, the CEO of Swiss-Ski, shared, “We are shocked and our thoughts are with Sophie’s family, to whom we offer our deepest condolences.” The entire snowboarding community is mourning this tragic loss.
