France's highest court upholds Sarkozy's corruption conviction

France’s Top Court Confirms Ex-President Sarkozy’s Conviction!

Hey there! Did you hear the news from France? 🇫🇷 Former President Nicolas Sarkozy has had his conviction upheld by the country’s highest court.

Nicolas Sarkozy was the President of France from 2007 to 2012. That’s like being the head leader of the whole country!

In 2021, he was found guilty of corruption and influence peddling. This means he was caught doing things that were unfair and against the law, like trying to get secret information from a judge in exchange for favors.

He didn’t agree with the guilty verdict and appealed to a higher court. But on Wednesday, the highest court in France said the conviction still stands! That means they agree with the first decision.

As a result, Sarkozy faces a three-year prison sentence. However, two of those years are suspended, which means he might only have to serve one year.

This is a big deal because it’s not every day that a former leader is convicted of breaking the law! It shows that in France, everyone is expected to follow the rules, even former presidents.
