Big Explosion in The Hague: Rescuers Search for Survivors

In the city of The Hague, Netherlands, there was a big explosion in an apartment building on Saturday morning. Four people have been found dead, and rescuers are still looking for more survivors.

An apartment building is where many people live in separate homes in the same building. After the explosion, part of the building collapsed, which means it fell down.

One person was found alive in the broken pieces of the building, called rubble, and was taken to the hospital. Three other people were also hurt and are in the hospital.

The mayor of The Hague, Jan van Zanen, said, “We hope to find more people alive, but it might be difficult.”

Some people saw a car driving away quickly after the explosion. The police are asking anyone who saw the car to let them know.

The explosion happened on a street called Tarwekamp Street in an area called Mariahoeve. Pictures show that some walls of the apartments are missing, and you can see inside the homes.

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, said he was shocked by the terrible news. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima also shared kind words for everyone affected.
