In Daoxian County, Hunan Province, people have been racing dragon boats for thousands of years! That’s a really long time, even older than your grandparents’ grandparents! 😲
This year, to welcome the Duanwu Festival, they held a fantastic dragon boat parade. Each boat is special and has its own name. The front of the boats are decorated with colorful sculptures of different animals like dragons 🐉, tigers 🐯, phoenixes 🦚, eagles 🦅, and even cats 🐱! How cool is that?
Did you know? In 2021, the dragon boat races of Daoxian County were added to China’s list of national intangible cultural heritage. That means it’s a very important tradition that people want to protect and celebrate! 🎉
