Once Upon a Time…
A long time ago, in the wetlands of China, the milu deer roamed freely. But by the late 19th century, they had disappeared from their native land. 😔 Only a small group of 18 milu deer survived in Europe, thanks to some caring people who protected them.
A Global Effort to Save Them 🌍
People from around the world came together to save the milu deer from becoming extinct. In 1986, these special deer were brought back to China. It was a historic moment! 🎉
Home Sweet Home 🏡
Today, the Dafeng Milu National Nature Reserve in Jiangsu, China, is a safe haven for these amazing animals. Caretakers at the reserve work hard to look after the milu deer. They check on their health, watch how they move around, and make sure they have a good home.
Thriving in the Wild 🌿
Guess what? From just 18 deer, there are now around 8,200 milu deer in the reserve! Even better, about 3,500 of them are living freely in the wild. Isn’t that amazing? 😃
