Global automakers eye deeper role in China's smart supply chains

How Tesla and Other Car Makers are Teaming Up with China to Build Cool Electric Cars ๐Ÿš—โšก

Hey there! Did you know that some of the biggest car companies in the world are working closely with China to make super cool electric cars? ๐Ÿš—โšก Let’s find out how they’re teaming up to build the cars of the future!

At the China International Supply Chain Expo in Beijing, big names like Tesla and Bosch shared exciting news about how they’re working with China’s smart factories.

Tesla’s Super Factory in Shanghai

Tesla, the company famous for its electric cars, has a huge factory in Shanghai. This factory is so advanced that it can make one car every 30 seconds! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ That’s like making two cars in just one minute!

Almost all the parts used in Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y cars made in this factory come from local Chinese suppliers. This means that 95% of the car parts are made right there in China.

As of June, this factory made nearly half of all the Tesla cars sold around the world. That’s a lot of cars! Over 3 million Teslas have been built there since the factory opened.

Tesla’s Big Batteries: Megapacks

But wait, there’s more! Tesla isn’t just making cars in China. They’re also building something called Megapacks. These are giant batteries that can store lots of energy, like super-sized power banks! โšก

Tesla’s first Megapack factory outside the United States is also in Shanghai. The facility was built and started working in just nine months. Megapacks from this factory are being sent to countries all over the Asia-Pacific region, helping to provide clean energy.

Why China?

An unnamed Tesla spokesperson said, “China has the world’s most complete electric vehicle supply chain, with top-tier local suppliers and super-fast manufacturing abilities.”

But what is a supply chain? Think of it like all the steps needed to make a product, from getting the materials to building the final car. China has all these steps working smoothly together!

He also said that China has lots of talented people in areas like artificial intelligence (that’s when computers and machines can learn and make decisions), electric vehicle engineering, and advanced manufacturing (that’s making things using the latest technology). These experts are very important for Tesla’s work in China.

“Whether it’s supply chain strength, ability to innovate, or the huge market size, China has unique advantages,” the spokesperson added.

Bosch Joins In

Bosch, a German company that makes car parts, also shared how they’re working closely with Chinese factories. They’re creating new electric power systems and smart driving features, showing just how fast technology is growing in China.
