Guess what hatched in China’s Chishui River? 🐟 Tiny baby Yangtze sturgeons! For the first time in over 20 years, scientists have witnessed Yangtze sturgeons reproducing in the wild! 🎉 The Yangtze sturgeon is a big fish that lives in the Yangtze River in China. Sadly, these amazing creatures were almost gone because of pollution and overfishing. But scientists didn’t give up hope! 🌟 A team of researchers from the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other organizations worked hard to help these fish make a comeback. They spent years figuring out how to help the sturgeons lay eggs naturally. 🧐 They chose the Chishui River, a clean and undammed river in China’s Guizhou Province. There, they created a special area in the riverbed, just right for the sturgeons to spawn (that’s a fancy word for laying eggs). They even used drones and underwater cameras to make sure everything was perfect! 🚁📷 On April 3, they released 20 adult sturgeons into the river. Then, they waited and watched. Finally, on April 16, tiny, half-transparent baby sturgeons hatched! They were no bigger than a grain of rice! 🌾 “Seeing the baby sturgeons hatch was so exciting! It shows that our efforts to help them worked,” said Liu Fei, one of the scientists. “This is just the beginning of bringing the Yangtze sturgeon back.” 😊 This amazing event gives hope not just for the sturgeons, but for all the creatures in the river.
