Meet Dong Jun: A Young Hero
Have you ever wondered how you can make a real difference in someone’s life? 🩸
Meet Dong Jun, a 22-year-old student from Beijing Jiaotong University in China. As he was getting ready to graduate from the School of Mechanical, Electronic and Control Engineering, he decided to do something special: donate blood.
“Blood can’t be made in a lab,” Dong says. “Hospitals need people like us to help.”
This wasn’t the first time Dong donated blood. He started when he was just 18! 😲 He wanted to give back to his community before leaving university, and donating blood was his way of doing something meaningful.
Joining the Blood Donation Campaign
Recently, Dong’s university started a campaign to encourage students and teachers to donate blood. The hospitals needed more blood, and the university wanted to help.
Another person who joined the campaign was Mr. Li, a counselor at the university. He donated blood for the second time.
For Mr. Li, donating blood is personal. Someone in his family once needed a blood transfusion—a life-saving gift from a stranger. “Being able to help others makes me really happy,” he says.
World Blood Donor Day: A Time to Help
Every year, people around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. It’s a day to thank blood donors and encourage more people to donate.
In China, many people are rolling up their sleeves to help. Even though donations were high in the past, they went down recently. Experts think it’s because of aging populations and people not knowing how important it is.
Is Donating Blood Safe?
Some people worry that donating blood might be bad for their health. But doctors say it’s safe for healthy adults! 😊
Dr. Hou from Peking University People’s Hospital explains, “When you donate blood, your body quickly makes new blood. It doesn’t affect your health.”
In China, people can donate 200 to 400 milliliters of blood, and they have to wait at least six months before donating again.
Helping Others Feels Great!
Donating blood is a simple way to save lives. People like Dong and Mr. Li show us that anyone can be a hero.
Maybe one day, you’ll decide to donate blood too! Wouldn’t that be amazing? 🤗
