Ben Healy Takes Lead at Tour de France After Stage 10! ๐ดโโ๏ธ๐
Hey there, cycling fans! Have you heard the exciting news? Ireland has a new cycling hero! ๐ฎ๐ช
Ben Healy became the fourth Irish rider ever to wear the famous yellow jersey in the Tour de France on Monday. The yellow jersey is a special shirt that shows who is leading the race. Isn’t that cool? ๐
On a tough mountain stage that was 165.3 kilometers long (that’s over 100 miles!), Ben pedaled his heart out through the beautiful mountains of central France. Even though he finished third in the stage, his amazing effort put him ahead of other top riders in the overall race. ๐
He said, “It’s like a fairy tale! If you told me before this Tour that I’d be wearing the yellow jersey, I wouldn’t have believed it!”
Ben is following in the footsteps of other great Irish cyclists like Shay Elliot, Sean Kelly, and Stephen Roche. He’s super proud to represent Ireland and hopes to make everyone back home happy. โ๏ธ
Did you know Ben was born in England but races for Ireland because of his family’s Irish roots? His dad’s parents are from Cork and Waterford in Ireland.
In the race, Ben was almost four minutes behind the leader before Stage 10. But he joined a big group that broke away from the main pack, called the peloton (that’s a fancy word for the big group of riders). ๐ดโโ๏ธ๐ดโโ๏ธ๐ดโโ๏ธ
He climbed seven big hills, called category two climbs (these are pretty tough!), and pushed ahead. Even though another rider, Simon Yates, won the stage, Ben’s effort put him in the overall lead!
Now, Ben is wearing the yellow jersey, showing he’s the top rider so far. Let’s cheer him on as the race continues! ๐
