Hey tennis fans! ๐พ Did you hear about Zhang Shuai’s amazing journey at Wimbledon? Let’s dive in!
Zhang Shuai and Marcelo Arevalo Advance to Quarterfinals!
On Sunday, Zhang Shuai from China and her partner Marcelo Arevalo from El Salvador made it to the quarterfinals in the mixed doubles at Wimbledon! ๐ They faced Jiang Xinyu from China and Luke Bambridge from Britain in a thrilling match.
The first set was super tight! Both teams broke each other’s serves, and it went all the way to a tiebreak. At 6-6 in the tiebreak, Zhang and Marcelo stayed calm and won 8-6. What a close call! ๐ฎ
In the second set, Zhang and Marcelo played even better. They were super accurate with their serves and won most of their first serves. They broke their opponents’ serves twice and didn’t let them break back. They won the set 6-3 and took the victory! ๐
Next up, they’ll play against Desirae Krawczyk from the USA and Neal Skupski from Britain for a spot in the semifinals. Let’s cheer them on! ๐
Tough Luck in Women’s Doubles
Earlier, Zhang Shuai teamed up with Ekaterina Alexandrova from Russia in the women’s doubles. They played against Hsieh Su-wei from Chinese Taipei and Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia. Unfortunately, Zhang and Ekaterina lost 4-6, 0-6 in the third round and couldn’t move on to the quarterfinals. ๐
The first set was really close. Zhang showed some awesome net plays, and they were tied at 4-4. But their opponents broke their serve and took the set. In the second set, rain kept interrupting the match, and Zhang and Ekaterina couldn’t find their rhythm. They tried their best, but they couldn’t come back.
Even though they didn’t win, we’re super proud of Zhang Shuai’s efforts! She still has a chance in the mixed doubles. Go Zhang Shuai! ๐ช
