Hey tennis fans! ๐พ Have you heard the exciting news? China’s rising star, Zheng Qinwen, is all set to make a splash at Wimbledon starting this Monday! ๐
Zheng, who is just 22 years old, is the No. 5 seed at this year’s tournament. She’s feeling more confident than ever after reaching the semifinals at the Queen’s Club Championships earlier this month. “The Queen’s experience was really good for me,” Zheng shared. “It was my first semifinal on a grass-court tournament, and I learned a lot from those matches.” ๐ฑ๐
Grass courts can be tricky since the ball moves faster and bounces lower compared to other surfaces. But thanks to her recent success, Zheng feels ready to take on the challenge at Wimbledon. “Right now, my body is healthier, and I’ve had better preparation with my team,” she said. “I hope this year everything is going to be great!” ๐ช๐
Another exciting change for Zheng is her new coach, Francisco Roig from Spain. Guess what? He used to coach Rafael Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles! ๐ Zheng believes Coach Roig can help her bring something new to her game.
But Zheng isn’t the only player from the Chinese mainland to watch out for! ๐ Five more amazing players are competing at Wimbledon:
- Wang Xinyu (World No. 33) will face Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic. Wang reached the round of 16 last year! ๐
- Zhang Shuai (World No. 127) is set to play against Olga Danilovic of Serbia. Fun fact: Zhang made it to the quarterfinals in 2019! ๐
- Yuan Yue (World No. 61) will challenge Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Germany. She’s aiming to get past the opening round for the first time. Go Yuan Yue! ๐
- Zhu Lin (World No. 172) is up against Veronika Kudermetova of Russia. Zhu reached the third round last year, and she’s ready to do it again! ๐
- Buyunchaokete, a Wimbledon debutant, is the only male player from the Chinese mainland in the men’s singles bracket. He’ll face Brandon Nakashima from the USA. Let’s cheer him on! ๐ฃ
With so much talent stepping onto the grass courts, it’s going to be an action-packed Wimbledon! Who are you rooting for? Let us know! ๐ป๐พ
