π Simon Wang Makes Hockey History! π
Hey there, hockey fans! Have you heard the amazing news? An 18-year-old from the Chinese mainland named Simon Wang has just made history in the world of ice hockey! π₯³
Simon, whose Chinese name is Wang Haoxi, was picked in the second round of the NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks. That’s a big deal because he’s the highest-drafted Chinese player ever in the National Hockey League (NHL)! He was picked 33rd overall. π
Standing tall at 1.98 meters (that’s about 6 feet 6 inches!), Simon is a defenseman. That means he helps protect his team’s goal from the other team scoring. He started playing ice hockey when he was just four years old! Can you imagine learning to skate and play hockey at that age? π
Simon helped lead his hometown, Beijing, to win the youth group title at this year’s Harbin Asian Winter Games. He’s been training hard and even attended the NHL’s rookie training camp in June. π
After being drafted, Simon said, “First of all, I’m very thankful for all the support from China. I hope China’s hockey development gets better and better. I hope more Chinese hockey players can be drafted to the NHL and make more history. I will keep improving myself, work hard in my trainings, and play on the NHL ice as soon as possible.” π¨π³
Isn’t that inspiring? Maybe one day, you’ll be following in Simon’s footsteps, whether it’s in hockey or something else you love! Keep dreaming big! π
