Hey hockey fans! 🏒 Guess what? The New York Islanders just picked Matthew Schaefer as the number one pick in the NHL draft! 🎉
Matthew Schaefer is a 17-year-old defenseman from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He’s 6 feet 2 inches tall and has been playing for the Erie Otters in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the past two seasons.
Even though he broke his collarbone last December and only played 17 games last season, he still scored an impressive 22 points! 🌟 That’s because he’s an amazing puck-mover and great at moving the puck from defense to offense.
Other exciting picks in the draft include Michael Misa, a high-scoring forward who went second overall to the San Jose Sharks, and Swedish forward Anton Frondell, who was picked third by the Chicago Blackhawks.
The Philadelphia Flyers grabbed forward Porter Martone at number six before trading up to snag Jack Nesbitt with the 12th pick! The Pittsburgh Penguins were busy too, making trades to get three picks in the top 24! 😮
This year’s draft was full of surprises and thrilling moments! Are you excited to see these new players hit the ice? Let us know who you’re cheering for! 🥅🥳
