Chinese Volleyball Star Gong Xiangyu Heads to the U.S.! 🏐🌟
Hey there, sports fans! Have you heard the exciting news about Gong Xiangyu? She’s a superstar volleyball player from China who is about to embark on an amazing adventure!
Who is Gong Xiangyu?
Gong Xiangyu is a 28-year-old volleyball champion who has played a big role in helping China win gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2019 World Cup! She plays as an “opposite hitter,” which means she specializes in attacking and blocking on the right side of the court. Pretty cool, right?
What’s the Big News?
Gong has decided to join the League One Volleyball (LOVB) in the United States for the upcoming season! This will be her first time playing for a club outside of China. She said she’s super excited to experience a new volleyball culture and improve her skills even more.
“LOVB is a valuable opportunity to learn new things,” Gong shared. “I want to develop my skills, see the world from a different perspective, and become an even better player for my national team.”
Gong emphasized that wearing the national team jersey is her greatest honor. She thanked the Chinese Volleyball Association and national team leaders for supporting her decision to play overseas.
Thankful for Her Journey So Far
Since she was 18, Gong has been playing for the Jiangsu team in China. She won two Chinese volleyball league titles with them! She thanked her team for supporting her and helping her reach this exciting point in her career.
“The Jiangsu team helped me start my career and get noticed by the national team,” she said gratefully.
What’s Next?
Before heading to the U.S., Gong is preparing for some important matches with China’s national team. She’s getting ready for the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) in Hong Kong, and she might also play in the World Women’s Volleyball Championship later this year!
