Hey there, tennis fans! ๐พ
Guess what? China’s rising tennis star, Zheng Qinwen, just scored her first clay-court win of the season at the Italian Open! ๐ฎ๐น She won against Serbia’s Olga Danilovic with a fantastic score of 6-1, 6-4.
Zheng, who is just 20 years old, is already making big waves in the tennis world. ๐ She got a bye in the first round, which means she didn’t have to play and automatically moved to the second round. Pretty cool, right?
In their match, Zheng started super strong, winning the first set 6-1. She zoomed ahead with a 5-0 lead! Even though Danilovic tried to catch up, Zheng kept her cool and finished the set with an awesome ace (that’s when you serve and your opponent can’t touch the ball).
The second set was more intense. Both players broke each other’s serves (that’s when they win a game while the other player is serving). But Zheng never gave up! She fought hard and won the second set 6-4.
After the match, Zheng shared, “Before going on court, I told myself I needed to be more consistent. In my last match, I had too many unforced errors, so today, my goal was to stay steady first, then look for chances to attack. I feel like I stuck to my game plan well.”
She’s now looking forward to the rest of the tournament and the upcoming French Open. She said, “When my emotions get too restless, it affects my performance on court. Now my goal is to quiet my mind, and take it one match at a time.”
Isn’t that inspiring? ๐ Remember, whether you’re playing sports, studying, or doing anything else, staying focused and calm can really help you do your best!
Let’s cheer for Zheng Qinwen as she continues her journey! Go Zheng! ๐
