Kvitova back to winning ways after maternity comeback

Petra Kvitova’s Amazing Comeback: First Win After Baby Break! 🎾👶

Hey everyone! Do you love inspiring stories? Well, we have an awesome one for you today!

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, from the Czech Republic, just won her first tennis match since becoming a mom! 🎉

Petra, who is 35 years old, took a break from tennis to have her baby boy, Petr, who was born in July 2023. After 15 months away from the sport, she returned to the court and on Tuesday (May 6), she won against Irina-Camelia Begu from Romania at the Italian Open! She won in two sets: 7-5 and 6-1.

“It’s kind of weird that my first win came here,” Petra said with a smile. “I’ve never played my best tennis in Rome, but it feels much better than losing—that’s for sure!”

Before her comeback, Petra wasn’t sure if she would ever play tennis again. “I was 95% sure I wouldn’t come back,” she admitted. “I felt like I’d had enough of tennis at the time—I thought, ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ So, we decided to try for a baby.”

But after her son was born, Petra picked up her tennis racket again. “When I finally got back on court, it felt amazing,” she shared. “I was laughing, hitting smooth shots, and thinking, ‘Wow—it’s still there!'”

Now, Petra is excited to play more matches and enjoy tennis again. She will next face Ons Jabeur from Tunisia.

In other news, Wang Xiyu from China was defeated by Arantxa Rus from the Netherlands, 6-2, 6-2, in the second round of qualifying at the Italian Open. Wang had taken a three-month break due to injuries. She’s working hard to climb back up in the rankings!

Isn’t it inspiring to see athletes like Petra and Wang Xiyu working hard and never giving up? Maybe one day, you’ll achieve your dreams too! Keep practicing and believing in yourself! 💪
