Hey tennis fans! 🎾 Guess what happened at the Madrid Open?
Britain’s Harry Fearnley had an exciting match against Buyunchaokete from the Chinese mainland! Fearnley won 6-3, 7-6(2) in their opening round. It was their third time playing each other, and Fearnley has won all three matches!
In the first set, Fearnley served super well, winning 80% of his first serves. He broke Buyunchaokete’s serve twice to take the lead. The second set was much closer! Buyunchaokete fought hard and pushed the set into a tiebreaker. But in the end, Fearnley won the tiebreaker 7-2. 🎉
Now, Fearnley will face the 19th seed, Tomáš Macháč from the Czech Republic, in the next round. Let’s cheer him on!
Meanwhile, something amazing happened! Kei Nishikori from Japan, who is 35 years old, won his match against Aleksandar Vukic of Australia with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. But that’s not all! This was Nishikori’s 450th career win! 🎊 He is only the third man born in 1989 or later to achieve this milestone, after Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria and Alexander Zverev of Germany.
Nishikori said he didn’t even know about this achievement! He just focuses on playing one match at a time. Next, he’ll play against Denis Shapovalov from Canada, who is seeded 29th. Good luck, Nishikori!
But there’s some sad news too. 😢 World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz of Spain has withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to injuries. The 21-year-old has hamstring and groin injuries and wants to recover before the French Open starting on May 25. He said, “I needed to listen to my body and make the right decision.”
We hope Alcaraz gets well soon and comes back stronger!
The Madrid Open is off to an exciting start! Who do you think will win the tournament? Stay tuned for more updates! 😊
