Great news for winter sports fans! πΏ The sliding races at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics are all set to take place on a brand-new track in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. π·
Andrea Varnier, the CEO of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, shared his excitement after the newly built sliding track passed important tests last week. Both the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation and the International Luge Federation declared the track a success! Now, they’re just waiting for the final thumbs-up from the International Olympic Committee. π
“Last week was a very important landmark because we’ve been expecting this for a long time,” said Varnier. “A lot of people had doubts that we could make it in just over 300 days to build a sliding track. And the pre-homologation went very well.”
But what’s next? The “homologation” (that’s a fancy word for official approval) will happen in the fall. After that, athletes will have test events and training sessions on the new track. Then, it’s game on for the Olympics! π₯
Varnier is confident. “We have absolutely no doubt that now the sliding sports will happen in Cortina,” he said.
This means we’ll get to see exciting sports like bobsled, luge, and skeleton races zooming down the icy track in 2026. Are you ready to cheer them on? π
