Hey tennis fans! Have you heard the exciting news? Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest tennis players ever, just became the oldest player to reach the semi-finals of a big tournament called the Miami Open! He’s 37 years and 10 months old. That’s almost 38!
On Thursday, Djokovic played against an American player named Sebastian Korda. He won the match 6-3, 7-6(4). The game was supposed to happen on Wednesday, but it was moved to Thursday.
Did you know? Before Djokovic, the record for the oldest player to reach the semi-finals of this type of tournament was held by Roger Federer. He did it at 37 years and 7 months old in 2019. So Djokovic just beat that record!
Now, Djokovic is getting ready to play against Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria on Friday. Djokovic has played against Dimitrov 13 times before and has won 12 of those matches. Wow!
Djokovic is also aiming for his 100th professional title! That’s a lot of trophies! He has won the Miami Open six times before, but all those wins were at the tournament’s old location called Key Biscayne.
After his win, Djokovic said, “I’m getting great support. I feel I have a really good chance to go all the way here… I’m playing the best I have in some time.”
In another exciting match, Taylor Fritz from the United States played against Matteo Berrettini from Italy. Fritz won the match 7-5, 6-7(7), 7-5. It was a close game that lasted almost three hours!
Fritz will now face a young player from the Czech Republic named Jakub Mensik. Mensik is only a teenager, and this is his first time reaching the semi-finals in a big tournament like this. How cool is that?
Tennis is full of amazing moments, and these players are making history. Who do you think will win the Miami Open this year?
