Griekspoor’s Incredible Comeback Shocks Medvedev in Dubai 🎾
Tallon Griekspoor from the Netherlands made an amazing comeback to beat Daniil Medvedev of Russia at the Dubai Championships! 😮
Griekspoor, ranked No. 47 in the world, was down four match points but fought back to win 2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-5. Can you believe it? He was so close to losing, but he never gave up! 💪
After the match, Griekspoor said, “When I won the second set, I was actually thinking, ‘How am I even still in this tournament?’ I probably should have been on the plane to Indian Wells already. Sometimes you’ve got to be a little bit lucky.”
Earlier in the tournament, Griekspoor saved three match points in his first-round match against Roman Safiullin of Russia. Then he beat defending champion Ugo Humbert from France.
“It’s my best win by ranking,” Griekspoor added. “Just very pleased with this win. It means a lot.”
Next, Griekspoor will play against Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece in the semifinals. Tsitsipas, the fourth seed, won his match against Matteo Berrettini of Italy 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 6-4. This will be Tsitsipas’s first Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) semifinal match of the year.
In the other semifinal, Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada defeated Marin Cilic of Croatia 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. He will face French qualifier Quentin Halys, who beat Luca Nardi of Italy.
