Team Michael Chang Takes the Lead at Macau Tennis Masters! 🎾
Hey tennis fans! Do you know what’s happening in Macau right now? It’s the MGM Macau Tennis Masters, Asia’s first mixed men’s and women’s team tennis tournament! And guess what? After the first day, Team Michael Chang is leading Team Li Na 4-3! How exciting is that?
This special event is part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Macao Special Administrative Region in China. Two amazing Grand Slam winners, Li Na and Michael Chang, are captaining the teams!
Meet the Teams
Team Li Na has some fantastic players:
- Shang Juncheng (a rising star from China)
- Wang Xinyu (another talented Chinese player)
- Casper Ruud (World No. 6 from Norway!)
Team Michael Chang also has amazing players:
- Andrey Rublev (World No. 8 from Russia)
- Karolína Muchová (2023 French Open women’s singles runner-up from the Czech Republic)
- Kei Nishikori (a superstar from Japan)
First Day Highlights 🌟
The day started with a fun event where players had to hit as many targets as possible using no more than one forehand and one backhand. Shang Juncheng hit three targets for Team Li Na, while Michael Chang didn’t hit any. That gave Team Li Na the first point!
Next up were the singles matches, each worth two points:
- Casper Ruud beat Kei Nishikori 4-6, 6-3, 10-7, giving Team Li Na a 3-0 lead! 🙌
- Then, Andrey Rublev fought back for Team Michael Chang by defeating Shang Juncheng 6-3, 6-4. Now the score was 3-2! 💪
In the final match of the day, Rublev teamed up with Karolína Muchová for a doubles match. They won against Shang Juncheng and Wang Xinyu 6-4, 6-3. This victory gave Team Michael Chang a one-point advantage to end the day!
