On the very first day, an incredible six world records were broken! π² One of the brightest stars of the night was 18-year-old Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh. She raced through the water in the women’s 400m freestyle, finishing with an astonishing time of 3 minutes and 50.25 seconds! β±οΈ
This amazing feat shattered the previous world record set by Li Bingjie of China in 2022. Summer’s swim was so fast, she was ahead of the record pace by two whole seconds throughout the race! πββοΈπ¨
Not only did Summer set a new world record, but she also made history by winning Canada’s first gold medal in this event at the World Championships! π¨π¦π₯ How cool is that?
But that’s not all! The night was filled with record-breaking swims:
- Kate Douglass from the USA broke the women’s 200m medley record with a time of 2:01.63. She beat a record that had stood since 2014! π
- Gretchen Walsh, also from the USA, became the first woman to swim the 50m butterfly in under 24 seconds, finishing in just 23.94 seconds! π¦π
- In the relays, the American women’s 4x100m freestyle team zoomed to gold with a new world record time of 3:25.01! And the men’s team wasn’t far behind, setting their own world record in 3:01.66. Go Team USA! πΊπΈπββοΈ
