Ding Liren’s Amazing Comeback Ties Chess Championship! 🏆
Hey chess fans! Guess what happened at the FIDE World Championship in Singapore? China’s Ding Liren pulled off an epic win against India’s Gukesh Dommaraju in Game 12, making the score a thrilling 6-6! 😮
After losing Game 11, Ding was behind and needed a win to keep his championship dreams alive. He kicked off the game with something called the “English Opening” (that’s a special way to start in chess!), and it was only the second time he used it in the tournament.
The game was super intense! Both players were careful and patient, waiting for the perfect moment to make their moves. The turning point was when Gukesh tried to attack one of Ding’s pawns (the d3-pawn). But Ding was ready! He surprised everyone with a clever move, pushing his pawn to d4.
After that, Ding took over the game with his strong pawns in the center and his powerful bishops. Even though Gukesh tried his best to defend, he couldn’t stop Ding this time.
“Yesterday was tough,” Ding said. “But today I had a cup of coffee and some snacks, which helped me feel full of energy! I think I played really well and found some good moves.”
Gukesh said, “Today wasn’t my best game, but that’s okay. Bad games happen. Overall, we’ve both been playing better in the second half of the match. Even though I’m a bit sad to lose today, the 6-6 score seems fair.”
With the score tied, the championship is more exciting than ever! Who will come out on top? Stay tuned to find out! 🎉
