Hey there, badminton fans! πΈ Big news in the world of badminton! Let’s dive in.
Chinese Olympic badminton champion Zheng Siwei has announced that he’ll be retiring from international competitions. His last tournament will be the BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou next month, which he calls his “last dance”.
Zheng, who is 27 years old, shared his decision on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Many people thought he would keep playing until at least the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028, especially since he and his partner just won gold at the Paris Olympics!
But Zheng has other plans. “This is my life plan,” he wrote. He wants to focus on his family. Did you know that he got married young and just had his second baby? He said, “I want to return to my family.”
Zheng and his partner, Huang Yaqiong, have had an amazing journey. They won silver at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, and then they clinched gold at the Paris Olympics without losing a single game! That’s a perfect 6-0 record!
They faced lots of challenges and doubts along the way, but they never gave up. Zheng said, “We constantly made breakthroughs and broke records.”
He chose the BWF World Tour Finals as his farewell event because Hangzhou is where his professional career began. How cool is that?
The BWF World Tour Finals will be held from December 11 to 15. Let’s cheer for Zheng Siwei and wish him all the best for his future! π
Thank you, Zheng Siwei, for all the amazing badminton moments! πΈπ
