The government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (also known as DR Congo) and a group called the M23 rebels have signed an agreement to help end fighting in the eastern part of the country.
What’s Happening?
For many years, there has been conflict in eastern DR Congo. The M23 rebels have been fighting against the government, causing a lot of problems for the people living there.
A Step Toward Peace ✌️
After months of talking and working together, with help from the country of Qatar, both sides have agreed on important ideas to stop the fighting. They signed something called a “declaration of principles,” which is like a promise to work towards peace.
Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, a leader from Qatar, said, “The agreement outlines the key principles both parties have committed to.”
Why is This Important?
This agreement gives hope to many people. When there’s fighting, families have to leave their homes, schools can close, and it’s hard to get food and medicine. Peace means that children can go back to school, and families can live safely.
