Anti-Asian Hate Persists in the U.S. as Support Funding Slashed

Isn’t it sad when people are mean to others just because of how they look? 😔 Unfortunately, many Asian Americans are still facing hate in the United States, and now the support to help them is being taken away.

A recent report from a group called Stop AAPI Hate shows that over half of Asian American adults have experienced hate in the past year. That’s like if more than half of your classmates felt picked on or bullied! And for young adults aged 18 to 29, the number is even higher—almost 3 out of 4 have faced hate incidents. 😢

So what kind of hateful things are happening? Many people are being harassed, which means they’re being bothered or bullied in hurtful ways. Some are facing discrimination, where they’re treated unfairly just because of who they are. Imagine being told you don’t belong or that you should “go back” to where you came from. That’s really hurtful and wrong.

Not only do these hateful actions make people feel bad, but they also cause a lot of stress and anxiety. About 70% of the people who faced hate said they felt stressed a lot, and 59% felt anxious often. That’s a lot of worry that nobody should have to deal with.

To make things worse, the U.S. Department of Justice decided to cut over $810 million in funding that helped fight against hate and support victims. That includes $2 million that was supposed to go to Stop AAPI Hate. This funding helped people get the support they need when they face hate.

Manjusha Kulkarni, one of the leaders of Stop AAPI Hate, said, “Instead of supporting the very organizations that provide vital resources to fight hate and safeguard our communities, we are seeing federal institutions pulling back and reducing critical funding.”

It’s important for everyone to feel safe and accepted. We all can help by being kind, standing up against bullying, and supporting our friends and neighbors. Let’s work together to spread love and put an end to hate! ❤️
