Hey there! π Have you ever had a disagreement with a friend and needed someone to help you sort it out? Well, countries sometimes have disagreements too! π
On Friday, in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, representatives from 32 countries came together to create a special group called the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed). ποΈ This group will help countries solve their problems peacefully through talking and understanding each other. Isn’t that cool? π
China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, was there to celebrate this important moment. He said that the IOMed will help make the world a better place by filling in a missing piece in how countries can resolve disagreements without fighting. π€
Hong Kong was chosen to be the headquarters of the IOMed because it’s a place where different cultures meet, and it has strong experience in both common law and civil law traditions (that’s just different ways of making and following laws! π). This means it’s a perfect spot to host this new organization! ποΈ
The IOMed is expected to start its work by early 2026. That’s just a few years away! Until then, countries will be getting ready to use this new way to make friends and solve problems. ποΈ
Later on Friday, a big meeting called the Global Forum on International Mediation is happening, where experts will discuss how to help countries and businesses settle disputes peacefully. π¬
This is a big step towards a more peaceful world where talking and understanding are more important than fighting. Let’s hope this helps make our world a happier place! π
