Hey there! Have you heard the news from Singapore? ๐ธ๐ฌ The People’s Action Party (PAP), which has been leading the country since 1965, just had a big win in the recent election! ๐ณ๏ธ
What Happened?
On Saturday, people all over Singapore voted in a general election. The PAP won 65.57% of the votes! That’s more than they got in the last election in 2020, where they had 61.24%. This means they secured 87 out of 97 seats in the parliament. That’s a lot!
Who Else Was in the Race?
The main opposition party, called the Workers’ Party (WP), kept their 10 seats. They did a great job holding onto their areas in eastern Singapore. However, no other parties won any seats this time.
New Leader at the Helm!
This election was extra special because it was the first time Prime Minister Lawrence Wong led the PAP in a general election. He became the Prime Minister in May 2024 after the previous leader, Lee Hsien Loong, stepped down after 20 years!
Why Is This Important?
The PAP’s big win shows that many people in Singapore trust them to lead, especially during times when the world is facing challenges. Leaders like Wong and Lee have talked about how things happening around the world can affect Singapore, so strong leadership is important!
Did You Know?
Singapore had a huge voter turnout this year, with 92.47% of people voting! That’s a lot of people making their voices heard. ๐
Isn’t it cool how elections work? Maybe one day, you’ll get to vote and help choose leaders too! ๐
