What’s Going On?
Flour and vegetables, basic foods that families need every day, have become super expensive in the Gaza Strip. This is because vital crossings where goods are brought into Gaza have been closed by Israel.
Closed Crossings 🚧
The Kerem Shalom, Erez, and Zikim crossings are important places where food, medicine, and other essential items enter Gaza. With these closed, many necessary supplies are stuck outside.
Why Are They Closed?
Israel announced the closure to put pressure on a group called Hamas to agree to a new plan. This plan involves extending a ceasefire (a pause in fighting) and releasing hostages.
The UN is Concerned 😟
The United Nations, which helps countries around the world, is worried. Tom Fletcher, a UN emergency relief coordinator, said that not letting aid into Gaza is alarming. He reminded everyone that international laws say people must be allowed to receive lifesaving help.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also urged everyone to work hard to prevent fighting from starting again and to let aid into Gaza right away.
