Hey everyone! Today is a big day in Belarusβa country in Eastern Europeβas people are heading to the polls to choose their next leader! π³οΈ
There are five candidates running for president:
- Alexander Lukashenko β He’s been the president for a long time and is hoping to be re-elected.
- Alexander Khizhnyak β Chairman of the Republican Party of Labor and Justice.
- Oleg Gaidukevich β Chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party of Belarus.
- Anna Kanopatskaya β An entrepreneur (that’s someone who starts businesses!).
- Sergei Syrankov β First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus.
About 6.9 million people are eligible to vote, and there are 5,325 polling stations open across the country. That’s a lot of people casting their ballots! π³οΈ
Elections are super important because they let people have a say in who leads their country. It’s kind of like voting for class president at school, but on a much bigger scale! π«β‘οΈπ
