Hey everyone! Big news from the Middle East 🌍! Israel just released 90 Palestinian prisoners from a place called Ofer Prison, which is near the city of Ramallah in the West Bank.
This happened early on Monday, and it’s part of a ceasefire (that’s when fighting stops) agreement between Israel and a group called Hamas. The ceasefire started on Sunday.
The prisoners included men, women, and even some teenagers under 18. They were taken by buses to areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority. Lots of families and friends were there to welcome them back home 🎉!
But there was some trouble too. Around the prison, things got tense when Israeli forces used tear gas to make people leave. Some journalists and people were hurt 😔.
Why did this happen? Well, just a few hours before, three Israeli people who had been held by Hamas in Gaza were released and went back home. It’s like a swap: Israel releases Palestinian prisoners, and Hamas releases Israeli hostages.
This prisoner exchange is a hopeful step towards peace in the region. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for more good news 🤞!
