Have you ever thought about what happens when one part of a country has lots of water, and another part doesn’t have enough? In China, they came up with a huge idea to solve this problem!
It’s called the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. This massive project moves water from the south of China, where there’s plenty, to the dry north, where people need more water.
In December 2014, the first part of the middle route started working. Imagine a giant river being built to bring water to places that really need it!
President Xi Jinping cares a lot about this project. In May 2021, he visited a community of people who had to move to make way for the new water route. He called them the “well-diggers” and said we should never forget what they did.
These “well-diggers” are heroes because they made a big sacrifice so that others could have water. They remind us how important it is to work together to help everyone have what they need!
