Taiwan is an island near China. Recently, Taiwan received some new tanks (big army vehicles) from the United States called M1A2T battle tanks. Tanks are strong machines used by armies.
But China isn’t happy about this. A spokesperson (someone who speaks for the government) named Zhang Xiaogang from China’s Defense Ministry said that these tanks won’t help Taiwan’s leaders. He warned that trying to rely on the U.S. won’t work.
China believes that Taiwan is part of its country. Taiwan has its own leaders who sometimes have different ideas. The U.S. has been helping Taiwan by selling them weapons like tanks.
Zhang also said that China wants the U.S. to stop sending weapons to Taiwan because it could cause problems between the countries.
China’s army, called the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), said they will be ready to act if needed.
