Big Changes Happening in South Korea’s Government!

Hey everyone! Have you heard what’s going on in South Korea 🇰🇷? There’s a lot happening with their government right now, and it’s pretty important.

The Speaker of South Korea’s National Assembly (kind of like the leader of their big meeting place where laws are made), Mr. Woo Won-shik, said that some recent actions by other leaders might not follow the country’s rules—their Constitution 📜.

Here’s what’s going on:

  • The Prime Minister and the leader of the main political party made a joint statement (that’s when two important people make an announcement together) saying that President Yoon Suk-yeol won’t be involved in running the country before he steps down.
  • But Mr. Woo thinks this isn’t okay. He says that only the people of South Korea can decide on changes like that, and it has to follow the Constitution.
  • He believes that if the president needs to stop his duties, it should only happen through an impeachment. Impeachment is a process where the government decides if a leader did something wrong and needs to be removed from their job.

On top of that, President Yoon accepted the resignation (that’s when someone quits their job) of another important leader, Mr. Lee Sang-min, who was in charge of safety and the interior.

Mr. Lee said he stepped down to prevent more problems in the government.

This all started after President Yoon briefly declared martial law on Tuesday. Martial law is when the military takes over control to keep things safe, which is a big deal!

Now, leaders are talking about how to fix the situation and make sure everything follows the rules.

Why does this matter? Well, government decisions affect everyone’s lives, like laws about schools, safety, and even games! So it’s important for leaders to follow the rules and for people to know what’s happening.
