Hey there! Did you hear the news? 🌎 South American countries and the European Union (that’s a group of countries in Europe) are getting close to making a big agreement called a trade deal! But what does that mean?
Well, a trade deal is like when you and your friends agree on rules for trading stuff, like video games or toys. In this case, countries are agreeing on how to buy and sell things to each other, like food, cars, or clothes. 🛍️
For over 20 years (that’s a really long time!), South America’s Mercosur group and the European Union have been trying to make this agreement happen. Mercosur includes countries like Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
Now, leaders are meeting in Uruguay this week, and there are signs that they might finally agree! The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, might even travel there to help finish the deal.
But not everyone is sure it will happen. Some countries, like France, are worried. They think bringing in more food from South America might hurt their own farmers. 🚜
Even though there are still some issues to solve, many people are hopeful. Brazil’s President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, believes they can finish the deal this year!
