Typhoon Wipha is Coming to Vietnam! 🌬️🌧️
Hey everyone! Have you heard about Typhoon Wipha? It’s a big storm that’s heading toward Vietnam’s northern coast. Let’s find out what’s happening and how people are preparing!
What is a Typhoon? 🤔
A typhoon is like a hurricane or a cyclone. It’s a really strong storm that forms over warm ocean waters and can bring heavy rain and strong winds.
Where is Typhoon Wipha Now? 🌀
As of Tuesday morning, Typhoon Wipha was about 60 kilometers (that’s about 37 miles) off the coast of Haiphong City in Vietnam. The wind speeds are up to 102 kilometers per hour (about 63 miles per hour), and it’s moving southwest at 15 kilometers per hour.
How is Vietnam Preparing? 💪
Vietnam is getting ready! Nearly 350,000 soldiers are on standby to help out. The weather agency says there could be up to 50 centimeters (that’s almost 20 inches) of rain! That’s a lot of water that could cause flooding and mudslides.
People in Haiphong, an important city with big ports, are watching the weather. Even though it’s windy and rainy, some residents say it’s not too bad yet.
“We can go outside this morning because the wind isn’t too strong,” said a person from Cat Ba Island.
Staying Safe 🚨
The Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, has told everyone to be ready for the storm. Airlines have canceled and changed flights, and some trains and ports are closed for now.
Did You Know? 🌏
Vietnam has a long coastline along the South China Sea, so typhoons are common there. Last year, Typhoon Yagi caused a lot of damage.
What Can We Do? ❤️
Let’s send our best wishes to the people in Vietnam! We hope everyone stays safe during Typhoon Wipha.
