Rare snakebird sighted in S China's Hainan for first time video poster

Rare Oriental Darter Spotted in China’s Hainan for the First Time! 🐦🌴

Guess what, bird lovers! 🐦 An amazing bird called the Oriental darter, also known as the snakebird, has been spotted for the very first time in Hainan, an island province in southern China! 🌴

This special bird was seen at the Changjiang Haiwei National Wetland Park. It was perched on top of a tall tree, showing off its sleek brown head and neck. It even has a cool white stripe running from its chin down to its chest! How awesome is that?

The rest of its feathers are dark, making it look quite mysterious. The Oriental darter has a long neck, which is why people also call it the “snakebird” because it looks like a snake when it swims with just its neck above water!

These birds are excellent fish hunters! 🎣 They love to hang out near lakes and rivers, diving underwater to catch fish with their sharp beaks.

Unfortunately, the Oriental darter is a near-threatened species, which means there aren’t too many of them left in the world. Seeing one in Hainan is a really big deal! It’s even listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

Isn’t it exciting to learn about rare animals like the Oriental darter? Maybe someday you’ll get to see one too! Let’s all do our part to protect these amazing creatures and their homes.
