Hey there! Have you ever had a rainy day ruin your plans? Well, in the Chinese mainland, they’re expecting some seriously heavy rain! 🌧️
On May 18, China’s weather experts issued several alerts warning about rainstorms, mountain torrents (that’s like sudden floods in the mountains), and other possible natural disasters in several regions.
The National Meteorological Center released a blue alert for rainstorms. That means heavy rain is expected in parts of Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangxi, Guangdong, and Xinjiang from May 18 to 19.
But wait, there’s more! The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) together issued a yellow alert for possible mountain torrents. This is a warning that parts of Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi might face sudden mountain floods due to the heavy rain.
They also sent out an orange alert for risks of geological disasters. That means there could be land movements like landslides in some areas because of all the rain.
The CMA even activated Level-IV emergency response measures. That’s like saying, “Everyone, get ready and be careful!”
Did you know? China uses a four-color system for weather warnings:
- Red – The most severe warning
- Orange – Very serious
- Yellow – Serious
- Blue – Be alert
And they have a similar system for emergency responses, with Level I being the most severe.
Why is this important? Heavy rain can cause floods and other dangerous situations. Authorities are asking people in these regions to be careful and prepare for the bad weather.
Remember: If you’re ever caught in heavy rain or floods, stay safe, avoid flooded areas, and follow instructions from local authorities! ☔
Stay dry and safe, everyone! 🌂
