This week in South Korea, delegates from about 175 countries gathered for a big meeting called the UN Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5). Their goal? To agree on global rules to tackle plastic pollution. 🧴🌊
The chairman of the talks shared some ideas, like making a global list of plastic products to manage and helping developing countries with funds to fight pollution. 💡💰
However, some people are worried that the plans don’t go far enough. 🙁 They think we need stronger actions, like cutting down on how much new plastic is made. Some countries disagree on this. For example, nations that produce a lot of petrochemicals, used to make plastics, don’t want limits on plastic production. ⚖️
Others argue that we can’t just keep cleaning up plastic; we need to stop making so much of it in the first place! 🛑🔄
