Beijing is one of the biggest cities in the world, with over 21 million people! The weather experts have announced a “blue cold wave alert”. This means cold temperatures and bad weather are coming soon.
Starting Sunday night, rain and snow will fall until Monday noon. In some of the mountains around Beijing, they might even get a blizzard, which is a really heavy snowstorm!
After the snow stops, strong winds and freezing temperatures will stick around until Wednesday. Brrr! 🥶
To keep everyone safe, the city has over 35,000 workers ready to help. They have more than 5,000 snowplows and over 4,600 snow-removal machines ready to clear the roads.
Zhao Wei, a chief weather forecaster, said that the rain and snow will make it hard to see and the roads might be slippery. So, people should be careful if they’re driving and stay away from the mountains if they can.
The rest of China is also getting ready for cold weather, with strong winds and temperatures dropping in many places.
Did you know that China uses a special color system to warn people about the weather? Red means the most severe weather, then orange, yellow, and blue.
