Climate summit drags on as proposed financing goal underwhelms

Climate Summit Struggles: Nations Debate Over Climate Funding Goals 🌍

Hey there! 🌟 Did you know that leaders from all around the world just met in a place called Baku, Azerbaijan? They gathered for a big meeting about our planet’s climate, called COP29. But guess what? They had some trouble agreeing on how much money should be spent to help fight climate change!

At this meeting, countries were supposed to decide on a new goal for climate funding. This means they needed to agree on how much money wealthier countries would provide to help other countries deal with climate change. They talked about setting a goal of $1.3 trillion by 2035! That’s a HUGE amount of money! πŸ’°

In the past, these countries promised to provide $100 billion each year to help developing countries. But now, many people think more money is needed to really make a difference.

However, some countries think that the new goal isn’t enough. Brazil’s Environment Minister, Marina Silva, said that the amount is “insufficient” and just the “start of a journey.” This means she believes they need to aim even higher to truly help our planet! 🌍

People are getting frustrated because they want to see real action. Some activists even marched silently at the conference to show they weren’t happy with the plans.

Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, urged everyone to make a “major push” to agree on more funding.

It’s important for all the countries to work together to fight climate change. After all, it’s our future that’s at stake! Let’s hope they can come up with a great plan soon. 🀞
