Methane Leaks: Why Aren’t We Fixing Them? ๐๐จ
Hey friends! Have you ever heard of methane? It’s a gas that’s invisible but very powerful when it comes to warming our planet. In fact, over 20 years, it can trap 80 times more heat than carbon dioxide! ๐ฑ
The UN’s Big Plan
The United Nations (UN) started a program to find big leaks of methane from oil and gas places around the world. They used special satellites in space ๐ฐ๏ธ to spot these leaks and sent out 1,200 alerts to governments and companies to fix them.
Only 1% Took Action
But guess what? Out of all those alerts, only 12 were fixed! That’s just 1%! ๐ฎ Many countries and companies promised to cut down on methane, but they haven’t been doing much about it.
Why Does This Matter?
Methane leaks are a big deal because they make our Earth warmer faster. ๐ก๏ธ๐ If we can fix these leaks, we can help slow down climate change. Plus, when companies fix leaks, they can save money because they’re not wasting gas.
What Can We Do?
We need to remind our leaders that promises are important, and actions speak louder than words! ๐ฃ๏ธ Let’s learn more about climate change and talk to our friends and family about why fixing methane leaks is so important.
Every Little Bit Helps
Remember, even small actions can make a big difference. Together, we can help take care of our planet! ๐ณ๐
